For sale, this antique Rope Making Tool. Patent Nov 12 1901 by Orson Bucklin of Marietta, Minnesota, received patent 686,440 on November 12, 1901 for this device. Made by Thomas Manufacturing in Ohio and by other foundries, such as Sioux City, IA, Topeka, KS, and many unnamed clones. The tool has three strand hooks driven by a central gear, open metal structure, unit mounts onto an inch thick fence or wagon board. The Bucklin / Thomas Manufacturing has no real bearings. The gears are held on by rivets, Light oil or grease helps the machine turn smoothly and last for years. Gearing is a 3:1 ratio. Main (sun) gear has 27 teeth, small (planetary) gears have 9 teeth. The rope maker is in excellent condition and the gears turn easily. It weighs approx 4lbs and measures 13" x 5" x 7". These are rare.

Comes with rope tool, traveler crank and brand new rope making book by Greg Davis.
